Haines City, Florida -- A large brush fire is burning in Polk County, near Haines City.
Florida Forest Service officials say it began Tuesday afternoon at the Catfish Creek Preserve, located off of Hatchineha Road and Fire Tower Road.
Six ground units and one helicopter with a water bucket are working to control the blaze, which is about 450 acres in size. But officials say it has the potential to grow to around 1,000 acres.
No injuries are reported, and the fire is not near any buildings or structures.
On Wednesday the smoke plume from the fire could be seen 30 miles away in downtown Lakeland.
