Brandon, FL -- Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a deadly shooting at the Palms at Palisades apartment community.
One man was shot and killed, 49-year-old Leon Davis, as a woman and her three children hid in a bathroom, calling 911.
Deputies say at least two men forced their way into the second story apartment as the five people slept.
Detectives are still trying to determine whether the man lived in the apartment. His last address is listed as Plant City.
This incident does not appear to be random, however the exact motive is still unclear at this time, investigators said.
"The main focus right now is to assure the community that this was not a random act, we feel pretty confident that this individual was being targeted," said Larry McKinnon, HCSO spokesman.
McKinnon says the mother and her three children, who are all under the age of 7, are being interviewed at HCSO headquarters.
The mother and children are not being named at this point in the investigation.
Neighbors describe the couple as quiet.
"It's scary. That guy didn't talk to no one. He was a real nice guy. The wife was real quiet, with the kids," said neighbor, Sonia Escobar.
Deputies have declined to confirm whether Davis and the woman in the apartment were married.
Escobar says she used to live in the same building as the couple and would often see the man playing outside with the three kids.
