Plant City, Florida-- Just after 6 p.m., HCSO responded to a 911 call from a Plant City home, where parents found their one-year-old child face down in their swimming pool.
HCSO says emergency medical personnel initially listed the boy in critical condition and transported him to South Florida Baptist Hospital in Plant City, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Early HCSO reports say the parents were home preparing for dinner when they noticed the baby hadn't been seen for several minutes.
They began searching for their son and found him face down in the above-ground swimming pool in their back yard.
Officials are conducting an investigation.
As a result of the fact that Florida leads the nation in the number of young children who drown each year, the state is handing out free door alarms to let you know if your child wanders.
The Department of Children and Families reports about 100 children die in accidental drownings every year.
Hillsborough, Pinellas and Polk counties are all on the state's top-ten list for the highest number of drowning of children under five.
