According to investigators at the scene, 33-year-old Guillermo Garcia arrived at the Village Inn on Dale Mabry and W Humphrey Avenue just before 1:00 this afternoon to hand off his seven-year-old son to the boy's mother, 38-year-old Okariny Diaz.
Preliminary reports from HCSO say the seven-year-old got out of his father's pick-up truck after returning from a south Florida trip.
The boy got into his mother's van, joining two other adults and three young girls, ages 10 and 14.
HCSO tell us the vehicles were parked nearly side by side when Garcia, the boy's father, got out of his truck and walked to Diaz's side of the van.
The mother and father began to argue, and Garcia pulled out a revolver and shot Diaz multiple times, killing her in front of the others in the van.
Police say Garcia then fired one round into his head, killing himself just outside the driver's side of the van.
Everyone else in the van escaped without any injuries.
The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner's Office responded to the scene and will assist in determining the official cause of death.
Police say detectives intend to review this family's history to see if any prior domestic issues have occurred.
Officials interviewed the others from the van, and determined they had no relation to the victim.
The investigation continues, and 10 News will continue with updates as they become available.
