Inverness, Fla. -- A 62-year-old Ocala man is dead after his school bus overturned during a race at the Citrus County Speedway Saturday night.

Citrus County Sheriff's investigators say Charles "Chick" Whitehead's bus flipped during the second race of the night and ended up on its roof. He was then hit by a second bus.

Whitehead was participarting in a special figure-8 race of school buses.

Citrus County Fire Rescue rushed to the scene and extricated Whitehead, who was still in the driver's seat restrained by his racing safety harness.

Whitehead died at the scene.

The races were suspended after the crash.
