Detectives say around 9 p.m. at the US 92 Convenience Store on U.S. Highway 92 W and Kings Avenue, one of the men grabbed 71-year-old Hasimbhai Indawala by his shirt from across the counter and held him while his accomplice armed with a knife went behind the counter to grab Indawala.
The two forced Indawala to open the register and, while one grabbed the cash drawer, the other body slammed Indawala to the ground. Both then proceeded to beat him repeatedly in the head and stomach.
On their way out, they also grabbed several packs of cigarettes from the back of the counter and fled in a dark colored 4-door sedan, possibly an older model Dodge or Chrysler, in an unknown direction.
The first suspect is described as a white male, 5'10", 220 pounds, with light brown hair. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and jeans.
The second suspect is described as a white male, 5'9", 160 pounds with brown hair. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt and jeans.
Indawala was taken to Brandon Regional Medical Center and was later transferred to Tampa General because of the extent of his injuries. Authorities say he is still in the hospital at this time.
