One of the biggest events of the Olympics was almost ruined by a drunken fan.
A man was arrested for throwing a plastic bottle onto the track moments before the gun sounded for the men's 100-meter final, which Usain Bolt won in an Olympic-record 9.63 seconds.
Fortunately no one was injured - well, no one on the track.
Edith Bosch, bronze medalist from the Dutch judo team, tweeted that she hit the "drunken" fan after he threw the bottle.
According to the Daily Telegraph, another spectator tweeted: "So a drunk (expletive) actually threw a bottle onto the track as 100m started! He got punched by Dutch judo bronze medallist Edith Bosch tho."
Bolt was unaware of what happened until after the race. "I just heard about it. I didn't actually see it," the gold medalist said. "I don't promote violence."
A Scotland Yard spokesperson said that a man was arrested on suspicion of causing a public nuisance. According to police, witnesses heard the 40-year-old man, whose name was not released, shouting abusive language before he threw the bottle.
