St. Petersburg, Florida -- Two people were seriously injured after a car and a bus carrying a college baseball team crashed into each other on Wednesday morning.
A Hartland Tour Bus was northbound on 34th Street South approaching 22nd Avenue South shortly after 8 a.m. St. Petersburg Police say a red light camera seems to show the bus ran the traffic signal as a Buick traveling southbound was making a left turn, and the two vehicles collided.
Police are awaiting video from a second red light camera to determine the location of the Buick when the light turned red.
The Buick's driver, 74-year-old Joyce Frazier of Clearwater, was taken to Bayfront Medical Center as a trauma alert. Police earlier reported Frazier had died, but now say the medical team was able to resuscitate her. Her condition, however, remains critical and she may not survive.
Frazier's passenger, 48-year-old Eduardo Arana, was also hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. A cocker spaniel that was loose in the back seat of the car at the time of the crash suffered minor injuries.
Police say none of the 41 people on board the tour bus were injured. The bus was transporting baseball players and coaches from the Rochester Community and Technical College from Rochester, Minnesota.
The baseball team was in town for a tournament at Walter Fuller Park in St. Petersburg, scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
Police say any charges in this crash remain pending until the investigation is complete.
