Thonotosassa, Florida -- It's the kind of estate you'd expect to find in California -- home to a movie mogul or Hollywood star. But the massive mansion can be found in unassuming Thonotosassa in eastern Hillsborough County.
Misión lago, a Mission-style home on Lake Thonotosassa, is owned by Tom and June Simpson. The couple made their fortune building, then selling, their company Health Advocates, Inc. Since the sale of their business, they've been busy building their dream home.
According to the Hillsborough County Property Appraiser's Office, Missión lago has more than 33,700 square feet -- 1,000 feet more than New York Yankees star Derek Jeter's home on Davis Islands. The Simpsons gave 10 News a tour inside the mansion.

"We knew we wanted to build something that was very Mission/California," said June Simpson. "But it's impossible to do that because the California lifestyle...everything is outside. You can't do that here."
So the home has a few modifications, like a caged pool area and attached guest houses to help keep the heat and the bugs at bay.
"We brought the California lifestyle here, but we modified it," said June Simpson.
From the arched great room and 5000 square foot courtyard, to the hand-painted, in-laid tile, being at the Simpsons' home is like being transported to the West Coast. They even have their own Hollywood Walk of Fame and a bed once owned by Cher.
But the Simpsons didn't abandon Tampa entirely. In their basement they build a 1,500-square-foot replica of the historic Tampa Theatre, a nod to June's childhood.
"That's where I first saw Elvis Presley. My grandmother took me there," said Simpson. "When I was younger, the dating, the proms, everything was there. So going to the Tampa Theatre was being young again--being a kid."
Tom Simpson shows off his massive collection of sport memorabilia in another part of the basement -- highlighted by a custom carpet duplicating the infield from Tropicana Field. He has a pair of Shaquille O'Neal's size 22 shoes, a belt presented to Muhammed Ali when he was still known as Cassius Clay and bar chairs from Yankee Stadium.
And upstairs, his office is a recreation of the Oval Office with a replica of the desk first used by President Kennedy.
The Simpsons spent four years building Misión lago.
"They started the whole process on a different piece of property at the north end of the lake," said builder Gary Brown of Sterling Bay Homes.
The location -- and design -- changed when the current property became available.
"It's got the hills right on the water," said Tom Simpson. "This particular parcel was about 80 feet elevation, I believe." The elevation gave them the chance to create the basement level.
"I had never built a basement in my life...in my career," said Brown. "So this one became a very unique challenge, especially here in Tampa, because there aren't that many sites where you can have this type of home in."
The challenge has already paid off. Misión lago has already won two design awards including the Grand Aurora Award at the recent Southeast Building Conference in Orlando. The home will also be in a national design competition in January.
Despite all of its extravagance, Misión lago does really feel like a home -- with one big difference: its size.
"If you put something down here, you better remember where it's at because you're gonna have to walk from that end to this end to remember it," said June Simpson.
