St. Petersburg, Florida-- Are there problems with the Shops at St. Pete, formerly known as Baywalk?
According to the New York retail broker, Faith Consolo, hired by the Bill Edwards Group to find tenants, many of those businesses are now skeptical about the project and are looking elsewhere.
Last February 10 News told you about potential retailers moving in like Soma, Island Company, J-Crew, Luxottica, Parfumerie, Lulu Lemon, Sur la Table and even Microsoft.
Faith told 10 News she worked on lining them up until her contract with the Bill Edwards Group expired last March and was never renewed.
She was under the impression the deals would be finalized, however Faith said these retailers are now calling her indicating they haven't heard anything.
The news comes just days after Edwards announced more layoffs at his company, Mortgage Investors Corp. Edwards maintains those layoffs have nothing to do with his development company that oversees the Shops at St. Pete.
Rick Baker, former St. Pete mayor and head of The Edwards Group sent us this response:
"We are progressing very, very well and are comfortable with our progress with tenants."
