Carrollwood, Florida -- A fight turned deadly between three people, including a former Tampa Bay Storms arena football player, Tuesday morning.
Hillsborough County deputies said they received a 911 call around 10:30 about a fight in the back parking lot of Whole Foods Market off Northdale Boulevard in Carrollwood.
By the time they arrived, one man -- later identified as 31-year-old Deshaun Gregory -- had been shot in the head and was found lying next to a white SUV belonging to David Saunders.
Deputies said Saunders, who remained at the scene until police arrived, was the shooter.
Based on preliminary information, investigators say Gregory and his girlfriend drove to the Whole Foods and parked near the rear of the grocery store. Deputies say Gregory was angry over "an issue" with Saunders, who had been his girlfriend's personal trainer.
Gregory had spotted Saunders parked in his SUV, and together with the girlfriend, got out of their vehicle and confronted him.
The argument became physical and Gregory reportedly pulled out a kitchen knife and advanced toward Saunders. The two men struggled, and that's when Saunders reportedly pulled out his handgun and shot Gregory in the head.
"It appears the men had some time of connection either through the third party or they knew each other as associates," said Hillsborough Sheriff's spokesperson Larry McKinnon.
Saunders was questioned and released without being charged, pending the outcome of the investigation and the State Attorney's Office.
Saunders lives less than a half-mile away from the Whole Foods Market. 10 News knocked on the door and a woman with two small children answered. She said Saunders was too upset to talk but he might talk later.
Gregory's girlfriend has not been identified, as she is considered a witness at this time.
Saunders is a former Arena Football League player. A West Virginia graduate, he played with several teams -- including the Tampa Bay Storm -- from 2000 to 2008.
