Tampa, Florida -- On Saturday afternoon, hundreds of thousands of people descended upon Bayshore Boulevard and downtown Tampa to witness an invasion!
Pirates have invaded Tampa Bay every year since 1904 in the annual Gasparilla Pirate Festival and parade, as they sack the city for loot and booty of all kinds.

Beads were in plentiful supply, but the event also offered much more by the way of fine culture, pageants, balls, socials, Tampa's finest citizenry dressed as pirates and more than 60 Krewes from the Bay area and beyond!
The invasion began at 11:30 Saturday morning, and Mayor Bob Buckhorn surrendered the key to the city at 1 p.m. The parade kicked off along Bayshore Boulevard into Downtown Tampa at 2!
By 5:30 the revelry began to wind down, and now -- as the Hillsborough Sheriff's Office noted on its Twitter page -- the cleanup begins.
