Traffic stop nets homemade explosives, arrest

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Multiple homemade explosive devices were discovered, including one inside a vehicle, during a traffic stop, authorities said.

Jared Cameron Brady, 19, of Clearwater, faces charges of possession of a destructive device and three counts of manufacturing a destructive device.

The first device was found in Brady's vehicle after he was stopped by the Florida Highway Patrol on Nov. 28, the Florida Department of Financial Services said.

"Brady was questioned and later admitted involvement in the setting of several unreported fires at a local park and to making explosive/incendiary compounds," the department said.

Three improvised explosive devices were later found in Brady's home, along with precursor chemicals, manufacturing equipment and records indicating that he created devices as far back as 2015, the agency said.

At least four devices were created by Brady, authorities said.

Brady, who faces up to 15 years in prison, bonded out of the Pinellas County Jail on Dec. 2.
