Off-duty deputy involved in fatal I-275 crash

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY - A 38-year-old Tampa man is dead after he lost control on his motorcycle and was thrown into incoming traffic on a busy highway.

Police say just after 11 p.m. Wednesday night, Joel Shubert, 38, was traveling southbound on I-275 in the inside lane at the 44 milepost when he lost control of his motorcycle and collided with a center concrete barrier wall. He was ejected over the wall and into the northbound inside lane of I-275 where a marked Pinellas Sheriff's Office patrol car was traveling. Jane Hanna collided with the man laying in the roadway.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shubert was wearing his helmet and they do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved.
