Two kids on bike struck by SUV in unincorporated St. Pete

Kids on bicycle hit by car

Two children were badly hurt Monday afternoon when they were struck by a vehicle as they rode a bicycle.

The two boys, Evan Ewing, 9, and Justin Rowland, 6, both of St. Petersburg, were on the same bike, with one riding on the handlebars, headed east on 54th Avenue North about 4:50 p.m.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the bike darted into traffic across 54th  near 66th Street in front of a 2003 Saturn Vue SUV, driven by Courtney Anne Houser, 25, of St. Petersburg.

The Saturn struck the bike, and the impact sent the boys over the SUV, and they landed on their heads, officials said.

The boys were taken to All Children's Hospital, where both were in serious condition late Monday.

Troopers had asked the public for help to identify the boys, but working with hospital staff they were able to get the boys' names.
