JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A long time University of North Florida employee was killed in Wednesday morning's apparent home invasion, First Coast News has learned.
UNF Spinnaker reports the employee was Joe Brenton, a senior IT network engineer who worked at the university for over two decades.
According to police, Brenton was killed at his home on V C Johnson Road early Wednesday morning. Police report his wife and child were also in the home. They escaped safely and are now with detectives.
The age of the child is unknown at this time.
Jacksonville police say Brenton was found dead just steps away from his front door, it is unknown if the shooter and victims knew each other.
At this time police do not have any suspects. Anyone with information should contact police immediately.
