ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- A St. Paul mother is accused of assaulting her 8-year-old daughter over a dispute about homework.

Prosecutors charged 31-year-old Porscha Lafaye Yearby this week with malicious punishment of a child.

The girl's father told police he and Yearby share custody of the girl. He says Yearby called him Tuesday telling him to pick up the girl because Yearby had messed her up.

The complaint says when the father picked up the girl she had a bloody nose and bruises on her face in the shape of a hand.

Prosecutors say Yearby told investigators she slapped the girl five times because she believed the girl had lied to her about doing her homework.

Defense attorney John Sadowski declined to comment to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
