Springfield, MA (CNN) - Customers are still shopping at Ben Thanh Asian on Belmont Avenue after this attack happened Friday night.
Police say a 42-year-old woman with her 4-year-old daughter pulled up in front of the market just after dark. She told police a man walked by and slowed down, but the woman got out of her car anyways. And she and her daughter proceeded to pick up some groceries.
"The perpetrator and he put a knife on her and demanded her pocketbook."
As they approached the building a perpetrator put a knife on her and demanded her pocketbook. But the woman didn't let it go right away. She struggled to get her and her daughter inside and that's when she got injured.
"She received a minor puncture wound on the neck and the guy had a knife in his hand and during the struggle it nicked her right here," said Sergeant John Delaney of the Massachusetts police.
The attacker took off on foot. Police say witnesses tried to chase him down but weren't successful.
In the meantime, customers say they'll still pick up specialty Asian goods at the Forest Park business.
Police say the woman and her daughter are doing fine.
