(USA TODAY) - A young Canadian hypnotist had to call his mentor for emergency intervention when he was unable to get a group of high school girls in Quebec to snap out a trance at the end of his show, the CBC reports.

One of the girls at Collège du Sacré-Coeur was reportedly left hypnotized for five hours until help arrived, the CBC says.

The 20-year-old hypnotist, Maxime Nadeau, says the group of 12 and 13-year-olds had been hypnotized for an end-of-school event last week in Sherbooke, Quebec.

He tells the CBC's French-language service that he didn't panic, because "it wasn't dangerous."

"Being in a trance is a state of well-being," Nadeau says. "I wasn't stressed. I knew they would get out of it."

When his former trainer, Richard Whitbread, finally arrived an hour later, a couple of students had their heads down on a table, while others were clearly in a trance.

"The eyes were open and there was nobody home," he tells the CBC.

He says he finally led the girls into thinking they were being re-hypnotized and then brought them out with a stern voice, the CBC says.

One student says it felt like an out-of-body experience.

"I don't know how to explain it. It's like you're no longer there," ?milie Bertrand tells the CBC. "You're spaced out."

The Canadian Press says 13 students reported headaches or nausea.
