CINCINNATI, OH -- For Adam Billman, police and Hamilton County prosecutors, it was deja vu all over again.
Six months after Adam Billman was released after serving a two-year prison sentence for robbing a Downtown bank, he was back in court Monday - admitting he robbed the same bank.
"It was actually a pretty stupid crime, to go back to the same exact place," Common Pleas Court Judge Ralph "Ted" Winkler told him Monday.
Billman, 28, of Taylor Mill, pleaded guilty to the July 16 robbery of the Key Bank in the 100 block of East Fourth Street.
"He went to the same bank. He used the same note (wording). He used the same escape route," Assistant Prosecutor Stacy Lefton told the judge.
In his first robbery of the bank, Billman went to that branch March 12, 2010, presented a note that demanded $100s, $50s and $20s, and then escaped by getting into a cab with the stolen $1,770.
In the July 16 robbery this year, he went to the same bank, gave the teller a note that read "This is no joke. Give me your 100s, 50s and 20s." But this time, because the teller slipped a dye pack into the stolen money and it exploded, Billman went to the nearby Tower Place Mall, bought a new shirt, put it on and then got into a cab that took him to Clifton.
Billman was caught the second time about a month later because he overdosed on heroin in a hotel room in Clermont County.
"He's a serious drug addict who wants to take care of this right away," Billman's lawyer, Tim McKenna, told the judge, adding that Billman cooperated with police after his arrest.
Billman used a gun neither time.
"For someone to do what you did, it shows a total lack of brain power," the judge said in sending Billman to prison for three years.
