Palm Bay, FL (Florida Today) -- The alleged theft of a $1.29 convenience store pastry has landed a Palm Bay man in jail for days.
The
man is accused of stuffing the Iced Honey Bun down his sweatpants and
leaving a 7-Eleven store at 6405 Minton Road. That was on Dec. 28.
A
store manager saw the theft and confronted the man, who fled on a black
bicycle. Palm Bay police in the area saw the suspect on Aladdin Street,
and using a police dog they found and arrested the man in a wooded lot
next to 178 Battersea Ave. NE.
The suspect, identified by
police as Brandon C. Phillips, 18, was wearing the same gray sweatpants
and his getaway bicycle was found between two houses nearby. A police
report says the store clerk identified the suspect as the pastry
pilferer.
Phillips faces misdemeanor charges of retail
petit theft, resisting arrest without violence and resisting in the
recovery of merchandise.
The Honey Bun was not found.
