40 weddings in 40 hours for $40

Atlanta -- Sylvia Wayfer Cark is a wedding planner on a mission.

She wants to help Atlanta couples who can't afford a wedding and she wants to help the homeless.

So she came up with an idea: a promotion called 40-40-40. "It's 40 weddings in 40 hours for forty dollars from the bride and from the groom," she explained.

Couples who sign up to be one of the 40 couples will get married at the Atlanta Marriott Northwest in Marietta starting at 8 a.m. November 14th, one per hour for 40 hours.

Included in the $40 there will be a bouquet and a cake, Minister or other officiant, a ceremony room and a reception room.

Each ceremony will last from 12 to 15 minutes and the bride and groom can choose whether to have a civil or religious ceremony. They will then be ushered to a reception room for cake for the remainder of the hour.

"We have 24 couples that have signed up already. We still have those one, two and three a.m. slots available, laughed Wayfer Clark. She said many couples who have signed up have told her they can't afford to tie the knot because they have lost their jobs and are struggling financially because of the recession.

She said the $80 per couple fee will be donated to the Atlanta Children's Shelter, a non-profit day care center where children from homeless families spend the day while their parents are out looking for jobs. "During the day they provide a curriculum and they get emotional support and other services," said Wayfer Clark.

She said several bakeries will be donating cakes and she is hoping for other businesses to donate flowers, dresses and refreshments. She is also seeking more ministers and officiants to perform the ceremonies.
