Bangkok, Thailand (AP) -- Authorities in Thailand are concerned about the latest teen fashion trend of wearing fake orthodontic braces.
Officials say it's potentially dangerous and they're targeting the people who sell and make the pseudo-dental gear with steep fines and prison time.
Girls flashing multicolored metallic grins are regularly featured in teen magazines in Thailand, where braces have become more common.
Thai teens buy do-it-yourself kits in stores and select red, pink, yellow, blue or multi-colored rubber bands to match their outfits or moods.
The government's Consumer Protection Board says the trend poses a possible choking hazard and notes that some of the wires contain lead.
