Congratulations may be in order for a Bend, Oregon couple... "may" because you might be a little skeptical of the story. Thomas Beatie, who was born a woman, had reassignment surgery to appear as a man on the outside.
But he kept his female organs, meaning he still has ovaries and uterus. Now Beatie says he's 22 weeks pregnant.
He and his wife Nancy, who is not able to have a baby, are thrilled that he was able to become pregnant through artificial insemination. The baby girl is due July 3rd.
To become pregnant, Beatie had to stop taking testosterone, and there is a chance the baby girl could have male characteristics.
According to obstetrician Dr. Lisa Masterson at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, this is not a unique case.
She says another transgender man has given birth before.
