Woman abducts child, leads police on high-speed chase

WHITE PIGEON, Mich. (WWMT) - A woman is in jail Sunday night after abducting a child in Indiana and leading police on a high-speed chase.

Michigan State Police told WWMT that a trooper pulled a woman over near U.S. 131 in White Pigeon. Through talking with the woman, the trooper had reason to believe the child, a 5-year-old from Indiana, was abducted. Police think the driver is the child's mother.

Police say the woman refused to come out of the car, locking the doors and speeding away toward Constantine, moving the child from the car seat to her lap during the chase.

The chase reached speeds of 75 miles per hour. Police say they had to use stop sticks to blow out the tires to get the car to stop.

Troopers found what may be cocaine in the car. They say it is being analyzed, and the driver is being tested for drugs.

She was arrested on charges of endangering a minor, driving under the influence and fleeing and eluding.
