Lakeland man charged with attempted homicide

Dashawn Jamal-Roy Bather is in custody after he turned himself in to Tampa Police on Wednesday.

He faces a charge of first degree attempted homicide in the shooting of Nathaniel Brewer, 20, in Winter Haven on Wednesday.

He will be transported back Polk County to face arraignment.


POLK COUNTY, Fla.-- Winter Haven police are searching for a man they say shot a Lakeland man Wednesday afternoon. The shooting happened after 2:00 p.m.

Authorities say Dashawn Jamal-Roy Bather of Lakeland is wanted in connection with Nathaniel Brewer. Police say Brewer was driving south in the 2000 block of 9th St NW in Winter Haven while the car Bather was driving-- was headed north on the same street. Both cars stopped and Brewer got out of the driver's side and approached Bather's vehicle. A verbal exchange ensued and Bather pulled out a  gun and shot Brewer in the neck. 

A friend with Brewer immediately called 911, put him in the car, and drove him back to a residence where police and medical services responded. He was transported to Lakeland Regional Health for treatment of non-life threatening wounds.

Bather was last seen heading towards Havendale Blvd. towards Lakeland in a 2005 gray four-door BMW four-door car with a Florida tag of 2759BT. He is to be considered armed and extremely dangerous.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Bather is asked to call Heartland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-TIPS (8477). Callers WILL remain anonymous and could be eligible for a CASH reward of up to $3,000.
