ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (AP) - Florida shunned the national spotlight Tuesday night and stubbornly held on to its 29 electoral votes as Barack Obama won the White House.
By Wednesday, Florida was still undecided and, for once, unimportant.
After months of being told over and over that it would be essential to a White House victory, Florida took too long to count the ballots and the race was simply too close to call. Obama collected several other battlegrounds and as it turned out, he didn't need the largest swing state to win.
Voters said they were thankful officials took their time in vote counting in order to avoid a debacle like the 2000 presidential election.
