TAMPA, Florida (AP) - Iranian-Americans and expatriates are streaming into a Tampa hotel to vote in their home country's presidential election.
Tampa was the only polling place in the southeastern United States for Friday's election. The Tampa polling location was held in a conference room inside the hotel, marked only with a small sign and an Iranian flag near the door.
The precint's supervisor said that as of mid-morning Friday, about 50 people had cast ballots there.
Abbas Hashemy said that people had come from as far away as North Carolina and Georgia to vote in Tampa.
During Iran's 2009 election, record numbers of Iranians voted in 41 locations throughout the U.S. This year, there are half as many voting locations.
