St. Petersburg, Florida - While in South Florida on Tuesday, President Barack Obama said "98 percent of American families" make "under $250,000 a year."

He said this while promoting what he calls the "Buffett Rule."

PolitiFact Florida decided to fact-check that claim. Fact checkers used statistics from the IRS website.

It found that about 140 million to 141 million filed income taxes in 2009 and about 138 million of them make less than $250,000 a year.

Therefore, PolitiFact Florida rates Obama's statement: TRUE.
