Shelters typically open between 6:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., and close the following morning at approximately 6:00 a.m. Shelter guests are provided with a hot evening meal, a warm safe place to spend the night, and breakfast the following morning. Volunteers work throughout the night in order for the shelters to remain open.
Donations are needed on an ongoing basis. Last winter, when the Bay area experienced a prolonged period of cold weather, the supplies at the shelters ran dangerously low. Some of the items needed include food, blankets, coffee, disposable dinnerware (plates, napkins, forks, etc.), money, and gift certificates to grocery stores.
