St. Petersburg, Florida -- A nationwide Caylee Anthony campaign wants you to join in, plus online reaction to the Casey Anthony murder verdict hits staggering numbers.
As folks at a Chili's restaurant and Lick's Deli in St. Petersburg watched the Casey Anthony not guilty murder verdict, 10 News cameras recorded their silent stare at the TV.
But as they all stopped in their tracks, the online world sped up -- and at an incredible rate.
News reports say at one point, the keyword "caseyanthony" was used 34,000 times an hour and "notguilty" appeared 20,000 times an hour on Twitter.
In all, 100,000 people watched the live stream of the verdict on wtsp.com and thousands signed up for our text alerts.
The web research company Akamai found visits to news websites spiked from a typical two million to nearly 3.3 million a minute around the time of the verdict.
Reactions online covered a wide range of emotions and mirrored the ones we got from people face-to-face.
"Thoroughly not happy with the justice system at this point. I think it's failed on every count. And the fact that someone could get away with something like this these days is crazy to me," diner Dino Antoniou told us.
But a man nearby disagreed entirely, saying, "They didn't have sufficient evidence. Everything was too wishy washy and stuff like that."
"I'm speechless. She just got away with murder," one visibly stunned person told us.
Yet another person saw things through the eyes of the jury, saying, "I would have done exactly what they did because there's no proof -- there's no 100 percent proof and we're talking about life and death."
Facebook has sparked a campaign that's grown to include more than one out of every 200 people in America.
As of 6 a.m. Wednesday, 1.7 million people had signed up to join the Facebook event "Porch lights on for Caylee Marie Anthony."
It calls on folks to leave their lights on overnight Tuesday night and Wednesday night to remember the little girl.
The event page says it's not about bashing people or taking sides -- it's just about Caylee Anthony's memory.
