SARASOTA, Florida (AP) - The case against the 16-year-old southwest Florida boy charged in the fatal shootings of two British tourists is progressing slowly.
Attorneys for Shawn Tyson told a judge Wednesday that they have yet to receive key documents from police they need to build a defense. Prosecutors say the documents are delayed because Sarasota detectives are still investigating.
The judge set the next court date for Oct. 12.
Tyson has been in custody since April 16, when 25-year-old James Cooper and 24-year-old James Kouzaris were fatally shot in a housing project after a night of drinking in downtown bars.
