Clearwater, Florida -- Dog owners can take their best friend to dinner under an ordinance approved unanimously Thursday night by the city council.
The new law will require restaurants to apply for, and receive, permits to allow owners to bring their dogs to outdoor areas of restaurants. Dogs will not be allowed indoors.
The restaurants will have to abide by a list of rules to maintain sanitary conditions on the premises. Employees will have to follow special rules to maintain cleanliness near the animals.
The ordinance was proposed by outgoing Councilman John Doran, a beach resident, who is leaving the council because of term limits.
