TAMPA, Fla. -- Dozens of members of the Florida GLBT Democratic Caucus are in Ybor City this weekend, going over strategies to keep President Barack Obama in office.
About 150 people from around the state who are concerned about gay and lesbian issues are prepared to take what they've learned back to their communities.
"We want to show Floridians and the nation that there are Democrats here in Florida and we plan to win Florida," said Caucus President Sally Phillips.
Meanwhile, in the GOP presidential race, Mitt Romney was announced the winner of the Maine Caucuses, just three points ahead of Ron Paul. Many predicted Paul would take this one.
"I think Ron Paul thought that Ron Paul was going to win this contest. And so I think his campaign is definitely a bit taken aback," said political analyst Shawna Vercher.
However, Paul is not giving up. For Romney, it's a much needed win, after losing three contests to Rick Santorum earlier this week. But for Santorum to stay alive, it'll come down to money.
"He's going to have to find the dollars and really be selective about how he spends them if he's going to make it for longer than the next couple of weeks," said Vercher.
As for Newt Gingrich, Vercher said conservatives seem to have turned their back on him for Santorum.
Vercher added that even by Super Tuesday next month, when 10 states will hold caucuses or primaries, it's unlikely someone will take a huge lead. That's because, with most states, it's not "winner take all" for delegates. So, we will be looking at a long contest before there is a nominee.
