COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP)- No injuries were reported after a student found an old hand grenade at the baseball field of a school north of Columbia.
A student at Columbia International University found what police said was an old grenade near the Ben Lippen School's baseball field Tuesday afternoon.
School officials stopped a game and evacuated the area until the Columbia Police Department's bomb squad disabled the device.
Police spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons says investigators think it was a World War II vintage weapon. Timmons says officials don't know how the grenade ended up at the school or how long it had been there.
