St. Petersburg, Florida -- 10 News has just learned the St. Petersburg City Council approved Thursday morning the creation of a domestic partnership registry.
It is being reported the unanimous decision was reached after a discussion that lasted over two hours.
St. Petersburg is the second city in Pinellas County to create a domestic partnership registry for unmarried couples. The City of Gulfport signed an ordinance creating a domestic partner registry on May 17, 2012.
The registry allows for same-sex and opposite-sex unmarried couple to register with the city and provides access to hospitalization, medical decisions and funeral planning.
