Melbourne, Florida (FL Today) -- Melbourne Police are searching for a man suspected of burglarizing a car while the owner was attending a roadside memorial for her daughter, who was killed in an accident last weekend.
At about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, the woman parked her car in an abandoned lot near the intersection of Dairy Road and Snicole Avenue, near where her daughter's crash occurred. Melbourne Police reported that the car was most likely unlocked and both the mother's and daughter's purses were taken.
Police met with the mother at her South Melbourne residence at about 11 a.m. She later told police that her credit card was used at a Walmart on Wickham Road in Viera and a nearby Target at about 8:15 a.m.
The suspect purchased several phone cards and an iPad before leaving the area.
Police are looking for a man in his mid to late 20s with glasses and sleeves style tattoos, driving a maroon or purple Ford Taurus.
Police suspect this crime is part of a trend known as "Felony Lane," in which people from outside Brevard come through the area, commit car burglaries in one jurisdiction and use the stolen credit cards or checks in another.
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call CRIMELINE at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).
