SIESTA KEY, Florida -- It was a beautiful day for the 29th Annual Sharks Siesta Key Triathlon, with comfortable temps in the 70s, partly cloudy skies, and light winds.
The race benefits the Sarasota YMCA Sharks, which has coached all levels of swimmers, from beginners to Olympians, since 1961. The event is famous for the white sands of Siesta Beach, and the delicious post race food spread.
This was my 5th triathlon since 2000, but my first time doing a race on the west coast of the Sunshine State. I finished in about 1 hour, 28 minutes, which earned me second place in my age group.
