Inverness, FL-- A man who stabbed a woman multiple times in her home early Monday morning is now in intensive care after he attempted to take his own life as he fled the scene.
According to the Citrus County Sheriff's Office, it was just before 7:30 a.m. when they received the call about the stabbing incident in the Gospel Island community.
The suspect, 29-year-old Levi Humes, reportedly left the victim's home for work this morning, and then returned shortly after saying he "forgot his wallet."
That's when officials say he stabbed the victim, 35-year-old Brandy Conley, multiple times for "reasons unknown."
Humes then fled Conley's home in a white Ford Explorer. As deputies caught up to him on Gospel Island Rd. near E. Allen Dr., reports say Humes attempted to take his own life by shooting himself.
Humes then lost control of the Explorer and crashed into a tree.
Conley and the suspect were both reportedly airlifted to Ocala Regional Medical Center. Conley has since been listed in stable condition, and Humes is now in intensive care after having surgery.
The investigation continues.
