ST. PETERSBURG, Florida -- A St. Petersburg woman lost nine of her dogs Sunday morning after her home went up in flames.
The house is in the 5,000 block of 12th Street North near Northeast High School.
Several neighbors saw the fire and reportedly called 911. When firefighters arrived, they say they saw flames shooting through the roof.
The woman had 10 dogs inside the home. Only one survived; the rest died from smoke inhalation.
St. Petersburg Fire & Rescue says the homeowner's mother and brother recently passed away and the woman had their belongings stacked up inside the home, which made it hard for firefighters to put out the flames.
