Lakeland, FL-- Two women spent New years Eve behind bars after they were caught stealing several bottles of liquor from a local liquor store that day.
According to reports, 23-year-old Jolisa Franklin and 37-year-old Shenicka Whittington spent five minutes walking around a Publix Liquor Store collecting multiple bottles and placing them in their large purses between 3 and 3:30 p.m.
The women left the store without paying for the alcohol, but because Polk deputies were notified of their license plate number, they were able to find and arrest them within the same day.
According to reports, the women were both still wearing the clothes seen in the surveillance footage, and they still had the stolen alcohol with them.
"Here's another example of how we work together with the law-abiding citizens in the community to swiftly apprehend criminals, " said Sheriff Grady Judd. "These two suspects thought they would help themselves to some bottles of liquor to celebrate the New Year. Instead, they spend the holiday locked up in the county jail."
This incident served as Whittington's 22nd trip to the Polk County Jail. Officials say she is still in jail on several charges, including Grand Theft, but that Franklin has since been bonded out.
Whittington's 21 prior arrests range from Grand Theft to Felony Petit Theft, Dealing in Stolen Property and more.
