Sarasota, Florida -- A felon wanted since August 2012 for her role in a large heroin trafficking operation has been captured.
Authorities say 57-year-old Demares Beatrice Castillo-Isa, aka Lourdes Milagros Ortiz Canuelas, was part of a group distributing a large amount of heroin from La Universal Carniceria, as well as her home.
Two of Castillo's associates were arrested in June and are facing federal charges after undercover detectives from the sheriff's office and Sarasota Police bought heroin off them. One witness reportedly bought more than 500 grams of heroin from Castilla-Isa for approximately $20,000 over a period of several months.
Castillo-Isa was arrested Thursday night in the 2100 block of 34th Street West in Bradenton by Sarasota Sheriff's deputies and U.S. Marshals. She is charged with Conspiracy to Traffic Heroin and is being held without bond. She was also arrested on similar charges in Boston in 2009.
