(USATODAY.com) - Child-endangerment charges have been dismissed against a 44-year-old New Jersey mother who was accused of bringing her 5-year-old daughter into a tanning bed.
Prosecutors said Tuesday that a grand jury refused to indict Patricia Krentcil of Nutley, who was dubbed "the tanning mom," the Associated Press reported.
Krentcil, who sported a chocolatey hue from frequent sessions at tanning salons, was arrested in April 2012 after school officials reported burns on her daughter's legs. New Jersey law bans children under 14 from tanning booths.
Krentcil denied taking her daughter into a tanning bed, saying the burns came from the sun.
Prosecutors said the case was now closed.
In August, Krentcil, who declared she was "born to tan," posed for In Touch magazine after a month of no tanning - natural or artificial.
"Everyone says I look so much better less tan," Krentcil said. "I feel weird and pale."
Regarding her daughter, she said she "would never" put her in tanning bed. "She comes into the room with me, but not the booth," she told the magazine. "She plays with her Barbie dolls while I tan."
Krentcil had no plans to stop tanning altogether, saying she would likely "squeeze a tan in here or there."
