St. Petersburg, Florida - It's a movie showing spring break and the Bay area beaches like you've never seen them before.
Starring James Franco, and former Disney stars Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez, "Spring Breakers" shows a seedier crime filled side of St. Petersburg- even if it is just Hollywood.
The movie is shot completely along Florida's Gulf coast, but also features local talent. The director actually scouted out areas of the city in search of inspiration.
"He was looking for a main character," said St. Petersburg muscician JJ Henry, who is a featured extra in the movie. "He was looking for a white rapper from St. Petersburg to actually base the character off of."
When the director found local rapper "Dangeruss", he knew he'd hit the jackpot.
"It was like a little kid who just got what he wanted for Christmas. He was excited," said Henry ,who says the director even borrowed items from his home to decorate the set.
"He used everything from my house- used everything from the clocks on the walls, to the ashtrays on the table. They gutted my entire house and left me with one stool for like a week and a half."
And while some worry a movie like this could give the Bay area a black eye, others are excited.
"It's a chance for a city full of talent to get some exposure," said Dangeruss. "It's good to always have that spotlight and that extra pair of eyes on the city."
