ST. PETERSBURG, Florida -- St. Petersburg police have arrested a man wanted in connection with a triple shooting that happened on Friday.
Police believe 30-year-old Hayward Hopkins went to a home on 21st Street North with another man, Daniel Brown III, to participate in a planned drug transaction. Once inside, both Hopkins and Brown allegedly tried to rob two other men, Ryan Jaeger and Charles Hernandez, at gunpoint. But police say Jaeger had his own weapon and exchanged gunfire with both men.
Brown died in the shooting. Jaeger and Hernandez are both in the hospital in stable condition.
After the shooting, police say Hopkins fled the scene unharmed. He was arrested without incident by members of the Violent Crime Task Force and the U.S. Marshals Service at approximately 11:15 p.m. Friday. He is being charged with second degree murder.
