Tampa, Florida-- Tampa Police officers say a 21-year-old arrestee is back in custody after he managed to wiggle his hand out of handcuffs, open the door of the cop car taking him to jail and getaway Friday morning.
According to reports, 21-year-old Tevin James Young was originally arrested near the Factoria Bar in Ybor City after TPD Bike cops caught him smoking pot outside.
The arrest was not an easy one- reports saying Young put up such a fight that one of the officers had to use her taser. But even that didn't stop Young, who pulled the wires out and then tried to grab it from her. Police say they wrestled him to the ground and held him there long enough to wait for backup.
After finally gaining control, officials reportedly found Young had a handgun on him, as well as almost 30 grams of pot, nearly one gram of meth, .3 grams of cocaine, nearly 100 grams of psychedelic mushrooms and other narcotics.
Young's second, and almost successful, attempt to get away happened as officers were taking him to the Orient Road Jail.
TPD reports say Young told the officers he felt sick and was hot, so "in an act of kindness" the transporting officer rolled down the back window a bit to give him some air...
That's when Young managed to get his arm- which he had somehow squeezed out of his handcuffs- through the open-window crack to grab the handle and open the door.
Orient Road Jail surveillance cameras rolled as Young jumped from the car. The footage shows him bolting through the jail parking lot to get away as the officer chases not far behind.
Young didn't get far, however. Reports say a K-9 dog found him hiding in some nearby bushes, and then reportedly bit him.
Young was taken to the hospital for stitches.
He faces charges for obstructing or opposing an officer with violence, carrying a concealed firearm, two counts for battering a law enforcement officer, depriving an officer of means of protection, escaping while transporting and violating probation- as well as various drug possession and intent to sell charges.
