WINTER HAVEN, Florida -- A Winter Haven Walgreens had to be evacuated today after someone called in a bomb threat and demanded an undisclosed amount of money.
The call came into the store at 7:35 p.m., according to the Winter Haven Police Department. Police say the man indicated a bomb had been placed in an undisclosed location on the property. The caller reportedly became agitated when his demands weren't immediately met, and said the store would be "turned to ashes."
Officers arrived and immediately cleared the building. A bomb dog from the Polk Co. Sheriff's Office was brought in, but no explosives were found.
"Our first priority was to assure that the public was safe," said police chief Gary Hester. "We assured that the store, including the surrounding area, was clear of any device that would cause harm. We applaud the staff of Walgreens in the way they handled this situation."
Detectives are now investigating the call. Anyone with information is asked to contact Winter Haven police at 863-401-2256.
