Largo, Florida -- A man caught in a stolen vehicle in Largo Tuesday afternoon was arrested despite an attempt to evade deputies.
Pinellas Sheriff's detectives say a deputy on routine patrol ran the tag of a gray 1994 Acura and discovered it had been stolen out of St. Pete. The deputy followed the car into a gas station on the corner of 142nd Avenue N. and S. Belcher Road.
When the driver, later identified as Bryant Collins, came out of the gas station to pump gas the deputy and his backup started to approach him. When Collins saw the deputies coming, he got back in the car and backed up into one of the patrol cars.
One of the deputies started shooting at the car as it tried to speed out of the parking lot. The car then hit a curb and crashed into a nearby retention pond.
