New Port Richey, Florida -- With the upcoming Labor Day holiday and growing tension in Syria, motorists all over are seeing higher gas prices.
But in Pasco County, drivers may soon see prices go even higher, thanks in part to a proposed 5-cent gas tax. The tax would be used to pay for road improvements.
Pasco's current gas tax is seven cents a gallon, the same as neighboring Hillsborough and Pinellas counties.
A public hearing is set for Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. in Dade City, which is when commissioners are expected to vote on the issue.
If approved, the tax would not kick in until Jan. 1.
