Palm Harbor, Florida -- The Palm Harbor University Hurricanes kicked off the 2013 high school football season at home against the East Lake Eagles Friday night. East Lake won, 49-0.
PHUHS is coming off back-to-back winning seasons under head coach Matt LePain but the Hurricanes never got going on offense. Quarterback Tyler Kaminski's second pass attempt of the night was intercepted by Blake Duckworth. That set up a short touchdown run by University of Florida verbal commit, Artavius Scott.
The Eagles had to replace star quarterback Pete DiNovo who moved on to UCF this fall. Jake Hudson stepped into the ELHS huddle and led the Eagles to nearly 50 points. East Lake led 28-0 at halftime and poured more on in the second half.
The Eagles, who lost last weekend to Manatee 38-7, have averaged nine wins per season over the last four years. They will travel to face Largo next weekend. Palm Harbor will host Boca Ciega.
